A FRIEND

A FRIEND - a poem by Randy

Carrie was a very good friend of mine.
Anytime I needed a friend
She was always there.
But a lot of people think that now she is gone
They should be sad.
But I see it as a happy time.
No more pain, no more wheelchair.
She will be made whole
Carrie will be complete again.
And she is with her son whom she loved.
Now she is spending eternity with him
And making him laugh and smile.

MY POETRY BOOK

Hi y'all
I am working on a cowboy poetry book that will be out soon.  I have written cowboy poetry for a long time and now I am actually sitting down and putting it into book form.  Hopefully everyone will like it.  As soon as I get it finished, I will let my blog readers know that it is done.  I don't have a title for it yet - and as most of my followers know it is cowboy poetry, so please help me come up with a good name for my book.

TRIBUTE TO SWEETIE

Here is a picture of the greatest horse that has ever been in my life.  A week ago Thursday I had to put this great horse out to pasture and by that I mean I had to put her to sleep.

Her name was Sweetie and she was 35 years old, but she lived a happy, long life with me.  I know that she is no longer in pain.  She is up there running free in lush green pastures and I know that she is feeling young again and so for that I am very happy and very blessed to have had her in my life.  I am sure there will be other horses, but never one like her.  I don't know how bad a mood I was in, I could always tell her all my problems and all my troubles and she was there to listen to me through it all.  I know that she will be missed.  Not a day goes by that I don't miss her, but all good cowboys know that this day will come in their life.   They say what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

In all my years of working with horses, I never even dreamed that I would have one to make the connection with me that she made.  They say an animal's eyes are a window to its soul.  So I know from first hand experience, Sweetie had a heart to go with her personality and I saw it every day.  For the people that don't know how she interacted with me it was a blessing and a miracle.  What is so special about her is that she didn't care that I was in a wheelchair.  She looked beyond the chair and looked at me for the person that I am and when it comes down to it, there is not many horses or people that will do that.

A Ride with Christ

A Cowboy enters a rodeo at Cheyenne Frontier Days,
And all the older cowboys thought that this young cowboy was going to be like any other cowboy.
He was different than what they thought,
Because his father was a chaplin for Cowboys for Christ,
And his father told him that anything is possible throught Christ.
So as a young cowboy gets ready to ride,
Before he gets on his bull,
The young cowboy bows his head and prays for a safe ride.
Then he climbs down on his bull, ties the rope, and nods his head.
Then the gate slings open, and he realizes that he is actually good at something,
But he also realizes that living a Christian life is not easy,
But nobody says that picking up your cross would be easy.
So finally, the whistle blows and as soon as the cowboy gets to safety,
He kneels down and thanks God for making him a cowboy.

The Last Real Cowboy

As the sun comes up on a new day,
I wake up early in the morning and sit on my horse
and ride on the range.
A lot of people think being a cowboy isn't fun
But it's a lifestyle like no other.
I know myself that there is no place I would rather be,than on a horse.
Cause when I'm on a horse, I forget everything.
All my problems seem to float away on clear blue skies,
And I really think I was born too late.
I know that there are a lot of people who think Cowboys are Hollywood movie stars,
But I believe that there are a few real cowboys left.
And I am one of them.

Not for City Boys

Mountains are not for city boys.
Big city people think the country's are full of backwoods people.
But if they really stopped to look around, when you go from a big city to a small country town, you can actually see the stars without the pollution and smog.
If you really look around in the country you can see all the animals, cows, deer, and all the animals.
Everything moves at a more laid-back place.
If you go into a small town everybody knows everybody and everyone wants to help everybody.
But small town living is not for city boys, you put a city boy on a horse and they wouldn't know what to do.
But you put a small town boy on a horse and he could ride forever and ever.
But you put a city boy on a horse and he would be whining and crying for days.

What is a friend?

A friend is someone to laugh with, cry with, and just be yourself with.
And a friend is someone when you call late at night, and you need help, they will be there no matter what.
A friend is someone you don't have to put on an act for and will be your friend no matter what.
I have many friends like that, I am very blessed and thankful, I have friends like that.
And God puts people in people's lives for a reason.
God knows people need friends, and there are special people in the world that we haven't met yet.
But when you do it is a blessing from God.

What is a true cowboy?

A true cowboy is someone who doesn't give up on adversity.
Somebody that doesn't give up on anything that he has to do, even when his back is up against the wall.
He is always trying and working hard to accomplish his goals in life.
And he kind of looks at life like an eight second bull-ride, because life will throw challenges at him and he has to really try hard to overcome them.
And he knows that he has the determination and try in him to overcome anything he has to do.

Preparing for the First Ride of the Year

A cowboy gets ready to start showing horses, but
There is a difference for this cowboy.
This cowboy has a lot
Of obstacles to overcome
Because he is physiclaly challenged.
He has to get his mind on track
And ready for the show.
When he rolls into the barn,
He knows what it takes to win.
It is a challenge for him,
But he does not back down from a challenge.
He has a true cowboy spirit
And cowboys do not know how to quit.
He is one of a dying breed.
